SES Resume
The SES Resume is written in a highly professional and detailed manner. The Federal Government needs executives and managers who can lead and motivate people. They need people who are results-driven and can achieve those results and have expert business sense.
The law requires that the executive qualifications of each new career appointee to the Senior Executive Service (SES) be certified by an independent Qualifications Review Board based on criteria established by the Office of Personnel Management
There is a push from OPM to use the USAJOBS on-line Resume Builder. In fact, it is expected that most jobs in the future will require Resume Builder resumes. What you should do is create your USAJOBS profile, add your personal information, work experience details (employer, dates, salary, etc), education, etc. Leave the work experience descriptions blank for now. After you create your Resume Builder resume, you will then convert it to an SES resume using USAJOBS. Note that there is a link under Resume Builder to do this for you. What this does is combine your SES Resume and ECQ’s into a single document. You will use this SES resume to apply for SES jobs.
The final step is to cut and paste your work experience from your SES Resume and ECQ’s into the text blocks within the Resume Builder resume. Note that each work experience is limited to 3,000 characters and each ECQ is limited to 8,000 characters.
The SES Resume writer will assist you with the development of your resume and ECQ’s. This is the most difficult part of the SES Resume and ECQ process.
Your SES Resume must also be written so that your value as an executive is conveyed in an interesting manner and written in such a way that your competence in each area and your ability to use ECQ core competencies is shown clearly and succinctly. You must not falter here or be modest. The SES Resume must communicate strongly and effectively how and why you are qualified to fill a leadership role in the Federal Government.
